A poetical text and a beautiful story with an optimistic ending With lyrical illustrations that perfectly render the metamorphosis of the Very Thin Lady and the kindliness of Little Man.
Little Man is a night watchman. One morning, on his way back home, he finds a very thin lady sleeping out on the street. He carries her home and puts her in bed, always asleep. In the evening she has not waken up. He prepares food for her before leaving for work. Back home in the morning, he finds her asleep, but the food has gone. This process repeats every day, and every morning, Little Man finds the Very Thin Lady asleep, but blooming. An ogre now causes misery in the neighbourhood, devouring animals. Little Man understands that at night the Very Thin Lady, who has been blooming and swelling, is the ogre. In order to cure her, Little Man abolishes the night by making bonfires around the house every night. The Lady stays asleep for nights and days, for days and nights. She turns thin again. One morning she wakes and smiles: she is no longer an ogre. "Thank you" are her first words to the LittleMan.
