A new series that aims at giving tools to better understand some of today's most important issues which young readers worldwide hear about every day in the media and which have direct impact on our lives. The series In front of an endless flow of information and images, a clear understanding of the human, economical and political interests at stake is not always easy. This series brings keys to apprehend the meaning of information, develop one's critical sense and take part into the debate as a citizen.
Each title is divided into three parts: - The first part, Deciphering the media, introduces the topic through four different related facts, deciphers the way they are handled by the media and replaces them into their context. - The Glossary of 50 words gives definitions of the main key notions, of the people, institutions and organization involved, and of the key dates. - The Text and documents section proposes a selection of documents: excerpts of international treaties, of speeches, articles from the press...etc, that allow a more in-depth exploration. This part can of course be easily adapted.
Striking images from the medias remind the reader of the treated events and facts, complemented by relevant infographic maps and charts. In the Glossary, a few sketches bring a touch of humour, thus allowing for a bit of distance. |
